Heatherbrae Builders Co. Ltd. is a BC owned and operated corporation that was founded in 1989 by Michael Knight and is now led by Dave Knight and Tim Knight. Today, the Heatherbrae team brings over 100 years of combined experience in construction management and general contracting, with a strong commitment to service and quality.
Heatherbrae demonstrates exceptional technical and business skills, and financial management abilities as recognized by the presentation of the ‘Certificate of
Accreditation’ from the BC Construction Association. Heatherbrae is a General Contractor and Construction Manager specializing in commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential projects.
We are an industry leader in new construction, seismic upgrades, heritage restorations, and building envelope rehabilitation. Our focus is always on the client, with a commitment to service and quality.
Heatherbrae has been involved in several projects that have or are soon anticipated to achieve LEED certification.
The introduction of third party environmental performance certification such as LEED has created a way to measurably increase the quality, durability, and sustainability of buildings. This has provided Heatherbrae with the opportunity to develop and implement management systems that reduce the environmental impact of all stages of the construction process. Our company is proud of its involvement in producing environmentally friendly and sustainable buildings.
Heatherbrae has long supported actions to limit climate change and put environmental protection ahead of economic progress. We are committed to working in harmony with the ecological systems that support us.
A significant portion of Canada’s annual resource expenditures is consumed by the construction industry, largely because of traditional material selection procedures and renovation and construction practices. Waste generation and disposal constitute another important environmental issue facing the construction industry. Conducting renovation and construction activities in an environmentally responsible way also requires a need for safer working conditions for trades people and building occupants; especially when working in or around occupied facilities.
In recognition of these factors, Heatherbrae voluntarily implemented a number of formal policies to reduce the negative environmental impacts of our operations. With guidance from ‘The Environmentally Responsible Construction and Renovation Handbook’ developed by Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) in partnership with Environment Canada, Heatherbrae initiated a process in 2005 to ensure that environmental factors were taken into consideration during each phase of our new construction and renovation projects.
During procurement and throughout construction, Heatherbrae will ensure the trade contractors fully understand the program and policy requirements specifically as they relate to their scope of work.
The introduction of LEED Certification has created a way to measurably increase the quality, durability, and sustainability of buildings. This has provided Heatherbrae with the opportunity to develop and implement management systems that reduce the environmental impact of all stages of the construction process. Our company is proud of its involvement in producing environmentally friendly and sustainable buildings and feel we are leading the charge in reducing the environmental impacts of our operations.

In 2000, after working on a wide variety of projects of different sizes and scopes, Dave was appointed to the position of Vice President, working directly under the previous CEO.
After another successful, impressive and dedicated 10 years with the company, Dave was appointed as the company’s CEO and acting Principal. His responsibilities include directing the day-to-day operations of the company (such as estimating and value engineering), overall construction planning, coordination, scheduling, and management of construction projects around the Lower Mainland, with his primary focus on the construction and management of challenging projects with aggressive schedules and budgets.
Dave has successfully managed and completed hundreds of renovations, seismic upgrades and new construction buildings throughout his career, and is a key player in BC’s Construction Industry.
Tim Knight joined Heatherbrae in 1997. Tim’s original position with Heatherbrae was to develop business on Vancouver Island, where he subsequently, and successfully, managed over 30 projects from 1997 to 2007. This led to the opening of our Nanaimo and Victoria offices which now employs six full time office staff and fifty field personnel. In 2010 Tim was appointed President, and assists in overseeing the daily operations of Heatherbrae, including the submission of proposals and estimating. He is also one of the Senior Project Managers of the company.
Prior to his employment with Heatherbrae, Tim attended the University of Victoria and graduated with a degree in Urban Land Economics. He continued his education and has successfully completed various construction management courses at the A.C.A. and BCIT. Tim was one of the original members of the British Columbia Building Envelope Council and his knowledge of structure, building envelope, use of alternate methods of construction and solving complex on site activities is well known in the industry.
In addition to the many institutional and mixed-residential projects Tim has overseen while working with Heatherbrae, he has successfully managed the completion of several high end homes in the West Side of Vancouver and enjoys the opportunity to work with selective residential clientele.
