Our work at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre comprised interior renovation and redevelopment of the audience chamber. The project was completed in three phases over three consecutive summers, with the adjacent Playhouse Theatre remaining operational throughout the work. By necessity the work was fast track in nature, at one stage requiring $25 million of work being completed in five months.
In each phase the budget was strictly controlled and the schedule inflexible as the facility was required to reopen to accommodate the international schedule of touring opera and other theatrical productions. We worked closely with the design team to establish appropriate scope and timing for the various components of the work and to adjust the scope to accommodate unforeseen complications and hazardous materials abatement while maintaining schedule and budget.
