Heatherbrae completed the new construction of the LEED Platinum Centre for Shellfish Research in February 2011. This project focuses on the readily available green technologies as a means to promote accessible green development. Features include high-efficiency lighting systems and heat exchangers and an impressive energy performance that is 65% superior to a base building of the Model National Energy Code.
Other design feature includes a distinctive curved glulam and wood roof as well as an innovative solid wood structural floors and a unique shellfish inspired form. This building is a “Wood First” construction as it uses over 87,000 board feet of British Columbia wood product.
